Breast Cancer Campaign Award 2011

Breast Cancer Campaign Members of the Mother's and Daughters Committee were delighted to be presented with the "Group Fundraiser of the Year" award at Breast Cancer Campaign's awards ceremony on Thursday 19 May 2011 at the House of Lords.

The Mothers & Daughters Committee, who over the last 12 years have raised over £2m for various cancer research projects, took home the coveted award after raising the incredible amount by holding a Ladies Luncheon at The Grove, Hertfordshire, attended by 300 women.

The Committee members were keen last year to help fund a breast cancer research project, and set their sights on a project being run by Dr Jo Morris at the Institute of Biomedical Research in Birmingham, which is looking at whether someone with the faulty BRCA1 gene, which increases the risk of breast cancer, will then go on to develop the disease.

Hilary Isaacs, former joint chair of the committee, said: "We are very happy to have been named Campaign's 'Group Fundraiser of the Year'. Members of the group wanted to raise money for research into breast cancer and we are proud that we could donate £80,000 towards this pioneering and cutting edge project led by Dr Jo Morris."

Pamela Goldberg, Breast Cancer Campaign's Chief Executive said: "Congratulations to Mothers and Daughters for winning this prestigious award for their outstanding fundraising. It is thanks to the continued support and commitment from people and groups such as Mothers and Daughters that we are able to fund innovative world-class research to help us improve the lives of breast cancer patients and beat the disease."
