Ladies Lunch at the Grove November 2010
with Sir Michael Parkinson

The Mothers & Daughters Committee held their Ladies Luncheon at The Grove, Chandlers Cross, Hertfordshire on Monday 08 November with Sir Michael Parkinson as guest speaker.

Three hundred and fifty two ladies attended the luncheon.

This year the committee decided to fundraise for the Breast Cancer Campaign. Dr Jo Morris of the Institute of Biomedical Research in Birmingham is researching a secret new gene which may provide her with evidence as to whether someone with the faulty BRCA gene will go on to develop breast cancer.

This cutting edge research will hopefully improve diagnosis for BRCA carriers and therefore prevent many patients having to take the hugely dramatic decision whether to have preventative surgery to remove their breasts and ovaries.

Emma Parlons, a 39 year old mother of two gave a very personal and courageous talk to the audience about her decision to have a double mastectomy and what this research means to her and her family.

Sir Michael Parkinson entertained us all with accounts of his family from Barnsley and also about several celebrities he had interviewed over the years.

At the end of the luncheon Sir Michael kindly did a book signing of his recently released second book, Parkys People. The event raised in excess of £80,000 for the Breast Cancer Campaign.

The Committe are delighted that both the Jewish Chronicle and The Jewish News attended the event and included wonderful articles in their issues of 12 and 19 November.
